Our Research Policy

CEMAC has a dynamic research policy and cooperates with various national and international research institutes.
Privilliged partners are Ghent University and the University of Namur.

Research projects cover the broad base of crisis management and include applied chemistry and fire dynamics, risk analysis, cognitive sciences and other domains.

Undergraduate thesis assignments are often the basis of exploratory research.
Advanced research projects include sponsorship of, or cooperation in, PhD theses, contract research with business and industry, and joint projects with government agencies.

Both CEMAC Public Services vzw and CEMAC bvba initiate and actively promote research projects. Group knowledge is shared between the two entities.

Computer-assisted Emergency response Training & Simulation tool (CETS)
A three part education and training programme consisting of: a. a motion picture, b. a syllabus covering theory and practice of disaster management, and c. software tools.

Managing Disaster

TEchnical & TActical Support Groups (TETA)
Development of HAZMAT Incident Response Cababilities including: a. CAMHIE dispersion modelling software, b. Snuffel advanced detection methods, and c. an operational doctrine.

Emergency Management Capability Assessment & Accreditation (EMCAP)
Applied research programme to develop a standardised procedure 'EMCAP' (Emergency Management Capability Audit Procedure) to evaluate quality and performance of emergency management structures, plans, procedures, ... in government agencies, emergency management services, and business and industry.
This methodology is to some extent based on the Capability Assessment for Readiness (CAR) project of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and EMAP project of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the USA.
